Become The Person You Always Wanted To Be With The Best Fitness Tracker!
The best project that you will ever work on is “you”!
We all are in a rat race. To be ahead of others and to exceed our expectations, we seem to take one thing for granted. That too for too long – our well being.
We have all been there!
Giving priority to working hard is not the problem; never!
The problem is when we neglect to look after ourselves, often forgetting to draw a line between our working time and leisure.
We end up grabbing a quick bite and not mindfully eating a well-balanced nutritious meal.
We end up sacrificing our exercising time to excessive hours of sitting at the desk.
It’s a vicious circle:
One of the biggest lies that we tell ourselves is that once I am successful, I will have time to look after myself. This is the biggest myth. Success begets more hard work, and before you know it, you are so involved in it that you have no time for looking after your health!
Does this premise sound familiar to you?
Getting back to fitness:
To stay healthy and to have a good quality of life throughout, it is essential to dedicate the right amount of your time and aptitude to looking after yourself. Be it running, walking, biking, or slow intensity yoga; you must get involved in some form of physical activity. Eat nutritious food and sleep well.
Our body is like a machine:
Just as a machine requires proper maintenance for it to last long enough. Our body requires us to take good care of it and make sure that we do not overwork it! Adding some form of daily exercise to our lives is a sine quo non for lasting longer.
For that little push:
One thing is sure. Left to us, we are never going to carve out time for exercise. But time is running out. Unless we take the initiative to get back our health, no one will.
This is where I present my case for a fitness tracker. A fitness tracker is a wearable tech that reminds and prompts you to go for various activities. It is a bundle of beautiful things that it is capable of doing.
• It counts your steps,
• Keeps a tab on your heart rate,
• Measure your blood pressure,
• Calculates your calorie intake, and
• Monitors your sleep along with several other activities.
In short, it puts you where you should have always been – on the right track!
What are the things that you must consider when buying a fitness tracker:
1. Purpose of the fitness tracker: you need first to determine what it is that you are looking for? There are fitness trackers that will track all your activities and measure the quality of your sleep. They help you share your work out records with your friends and their fitness trackers with you. This will double up your focus and motivation to exercise further. As a smartwatch, the device can fetch you your email notifications and voice calls. The choice is vast.
2. Display: some of the well-known brands such as Fitbit have an OLED display that is neat and will tell you what you are looking for at the flick of your wrist. Yet others will require you to fire up an application on them to give you a more comprehensive report.
3. Water resistance: you will want them to be sweat resistant, at least! The good news is that most of the fitness trackers are water-resistant and it means that you can shower with most and even walk in the rain. But diving in a pool will require you to go to a special swimming fitness tracker.
4. GPS: is it enough if the fitness tracker tracks your number of steps, distance covered or you rather have your route mapped? The answer will tell you if GPS on your fitness tracker is what you desire.
5. Battery life: who wants to run to the charger every few hours? Impressive battery life is extremely important for a fitness tracker. Most of them today claim to last a mean twenty days on a single charge. The decent range is about 5 to 10 days.
Are we ready to take a plunge and find out which fitness tracker is going to be the best choice for you! Here we take you on a detailed review of seven of the most popular fitness trackers — Head along with me.
This is one of the first choices of health connoisseurs’ world over. The way it has been flying off the company shelves since its launch in 2018 March finally available in the subsequent month. It’s been over a year, and according to industry sources, it is still making brisk sales from the first month itself.
There Is A Fitbit For Everyone!
Fitbit does not come out with yearly updates of its models and so far we haven’t heard anything about its successive models. The company simultaneously releases more than two models to be able to capture the wearable market by storm. As a result, you will find that there is FitBit for everyone from the very health-conscious to the easy-going to waking up to the benefits of being active. Yes, everyone!
The body is very light and of Aluminum. The dial is a 1.32 inches, rectangular, flat and has an LCD digital clock face. The interface is touch-sensitive. The Fitbit Versa comes in three colors viz. classic black, grey and peach.
The box contains Fitbit Versa, its charging cable. A warranty card and a manual. The tracker works on capacitive touch. With 2.5 MB of internal memory and high connectivity using navigations, Bluetooth via V4.0 BLE and wireless protocol, it tracks the user’s activities. Here is a list of things that Versa is capable of
• It measures the steps taken.
• Measures distance versus time
• Measure the calories taken and burnt accurately.
• It monitors sleep pattern.
• It tells the user how many active minutes he spends in an hour.
• It measures the heart rate.
• Tells the hours slept.
• It has a special SPO2 sensor which estimates the blood-oxygen-level in the body.
Apart from all of the above, it has a light sensor, an accelerator, and a gyroscope. The battery is 145mAH and needs to charge roughly every four days using a proprietary USB charger. It also has an Mp3 player! You can listen up to a record 300 songs by uploading then and listening with a Bluetooth speaker.
The best part about Versa, perhaps is its female health tracking feature. Details about your periods, symptoms, and other stats like sleep and weight will help you to understand the period cycle better.
Before we forget, NFC is possible (Yayy!) with Fitbit Pay. So, after an intense workout, if you are craving for a black coffee, you don’t need to go to the locker room to fetch your wallet; just flick your wrist, pay and sip! Hmm heaven!!
Versa has compatibility with Android V4.3, iOS, and Windows OS.
2. FITBIT CHARGE 3
This award-winning fitness tracker created a splash in August last year when it got launched amidst immense fanfare in Berlin. There was huge speculation around it that it would be a costlier version than its previous models Charge 2 and Versa. But thankfully the company has kept its pricing good enough to be affordable.
It is the most advanced tracker from the company yet. It is stylish and ultra-functional. The company believes in the philosophy that “the better you know yourself, the better you can do.”
The fitness tracker is only 36 grams in weight and has a durable and extremely air lightweight. The body of the watch face is of aerospace-grade aluminum and cased within Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which makes it looks not just stylish but smooth and flush in design.
One of the most improved features on its predecessors is that the fitness tracker is waterproof up to 5 ATM, which means that the watch face is water-resistant up to 50 meters of shallow water. You can swim wearing Charge 3 (yippee!) to be able to track your fitness moves when you are in the pool.
The screen is bigger, and the side buttons are completely done away with. Its touch screen interface is amazing. Besides getting notifications for calls, calendar entries, text messages, and other application alerts, the user will be able even to make quick replies. At the time of the launch, this feature was only available to Android users. But with time, it is available across the board.
The OLED display watch face features 18.3 mm and 38 mm rectangular shape. The buckle is of anodized aluminum which does not add anything to its gross weight.
The features are the same albeit more advanced, but the biggest disappointment in the watch is that it does not come with a built-in GPS. You can pair with other devices to have real-time pace and distance covered. That will not be a big difficulty assuming that most of us always carry our smartphones on us.
The powerful lithium-polymer battery lasts a whopping seven days, five days longer compared to its previous models. The charging is through its proprietary USB.
NFC is available as a default feature in this watch. You can store your cards on the tracker and pay stylishly with a flick of your hand a la a magic wand eh.
3. FITBIT VERSA LITE
If you have been looking at all the smart features packed fitness trackers and secretly hoping for an affordable one, rejoice!
Fitbit in March 2019, unveiled its most affordable tracker yet. It is a lite version of its iconic and award-winning Versa series.
The smartwatch is power-packed with almost all the features of its predecessors. And contain more advanced in terms of technology. The specs, however, are not the same.
Versa Lite comes with a 1.34 inches square screen featuring a total of 34 mm display size. The OLED screen is touch-sensitive and has a picture resolution of 300*300 pixels. The casing is with Gorilla Glass 3 and is lightweight at only 38 grams.
Fitbit has always aimed at keeping its design unisexual, and this tracker smartwatch is no exception. The company marketed this watch as a wearable accessory for everyday use. We think that the design of the watch face is so fresh that it is easy to carry with all kinds of dresses, casual or formal.
The features of the tracker are
• It tracks automatic activity.
• It continuously monitors heart rate.
• There is an awesome sleep support system.
• There are more than fifteen goal-based exercise routines built-in, for instance, running, biking, yoga, cardio et al.
• It supports notification on the go; provided the smartphone is nearby.
• It has all the application functions in one simple button only.
• It has a special SpO2 sensor which determines the amount of oxygen in the blood.
The battery lasts for roughly four days with one charge. The charging is through USB. There is also an accelerometer, a 3 axis gyroscope, an optical heart rate sensor, and an ambient light sensor.
An interface where you can motivate yourself and others:
Like all other FitBit, this one is to pair with your smartphone with the activity results on the dashboard. You could even join the community of users who motivate and grow each day. You could make some of your best friends here!
Versa Lite comes in five colors; white, lilac, mulberry, marina blue and charcoal black. All the colors look stunning. Yes! The watch is also swim-proof – Go, make a splash!!
4. FITBIT IONIC
Ionic is one of the iconic models of the company. It released in September 2017 and was in direct competition with Apple’s Series 3. It came after two other more successful models, namely Blaze and Surge.
The best part about ionic is that it has a built-in GPS which has Glonass. What Glonass does is it taps into the global satellites and helps to provide a more accurate reporting of the user’s exercise schedules? The built-in integrated antenna inside the clock face helps in tapping the signals.
Ionic has an impressive 2.5 GB internal storage, and that allows for a lot of storage space. Applications need not route through the smartphone. The NFC pay chip is removable. You can easily store your credit card details on it and flick your wrist to make contactless payments wherever such a system is in place.
It is compatible with both Android and Apple operating system. It has a point of navigations; voice navigation coupled with Bluetooth v4.0 BLE and WIFI connectivity too.
Stylist, yet superbly functional!
It sports 1.4 inches of an OLED display with a resolution of 348*250 pixels with 306 PPI clarity. The watch face is of lightweight aluminum and straps are changeable across the board. The user is spoilt for the choice of straps; from trendy leather ones to perforated silicone ones, the sky is the limit!
The watch has a touch interface and launched in three delicious colors, namely blue-gray, slate gray, and charcoal black. The watch face is digital and is rectangular flat in shape.
The watch is IP 68 certified and thus used in shallow water up to 50 meters. It is one of the best things to be able to wear your fitness tracker in the pool and to measure your laps there!
The battery can run up to 4 days in a single charge. There is an MP3 player along with sensors for ambient light, accelerator, and a gyroscope. It keeps a tab on the user’s activities and will give a friendly nudge if it finds him sitting in one place for too long. Apart from this, some of the other features are
• Calorie counter, both taken and burnt
• Activity / inactivity sensor
• Distance calculator
• Sleep quality monitoring system
• The number of active minutes in an hour
• Heart rate monitored 24/7
• Sleep pattern is discernible from the application dashboard.
• The number of hours spent sleeping.
Ionic is unisexual and goes well with everything. If you thought it had a geeky design, its functions would stump you!
5. GARMIN VIVOSMART 4
So, you want only a fitness tracker, raw?
Don’t you want all the other features that accompany a smartwatch?
Here are your prayers answered!
Garmin Vivosmart 4 is just the product that you are looking for. It has an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor, a barometer, and a heart rate sensor to make sure that you are in touch with what is happening to your inside while you attempt gravity-defying and adrenaline-pumping activities in a bid to stay the healthiest fit.
The tracker manufactured to last comes with a silicone body and a watch face that measures 0.3 by 0.7 inches in all and measure a mere 0.72 oz.
It has three preloaded software, namely VO2 MAX, Fitness Age and Moves IQ. It connects wirelessly through Bluetooth 4.0 BLE only. The battery lasts a little more than seven days in one charge only. This wearable has a clock display that integrates superbly with a heart rate sensor that measures the pace of your heart every minute of the day that you wear it on your wrist.
You can set your private fitness goals on the tracker as well as connect with thousands of likeminded fellow fitness freaks on Connect IQ where you can make friends, create challenges, and motivate each other also.
The list of things that Vivosmart 4 is capable of is
• Activity counter
• Calorie counter
• Distance covered measurement
• Floors climbed
• Step counting
• Sleep activity tracking
• Strength building
• Stress level monitoring
• And of course, tell the time!
Vivosmart 4 comes with a one-year solid guarantee with a few restrictions in nature.
Can you swim with Garmin on?
Of course, yes!
Garmin has up to164 feet maximum of water resistance. What this means is that you can play a lot of water sports wearing this one! How cool!!
Garmin’s affordability is yet another reason that it is extremely popular among fitness freaks. The company has successfully delivered a product that is worth every penny its price.
6. SAMSUNG GALAXY WATCH ACTIVE
Following closely on its heels after their Gear Sports models, Samsung came out with Active which looks like a stripped-down version of its sporty gear. This one is more focused on fitness tracking. The pricing is extremely affordable too.
The Samsung Galaxy Active is fast and has a host of fitness modes built into it. Apart from these, it also boasts of a built-in GPS with Glonass. It is also swim-proof with 5 ATM and IP 68 certification. Nothing can go wrong with it even if you swim with it on your wrist in a shallow pool. The maximum water resistance is up to fifty meters under this specification.
What is not there and disappointing so in Active is that Samsung has done away with its most iconic rotating bezel. People who used a Samsung model like Gear before are going to miss the satisfying turns of the bezel. But considering that this is a pared-down version of a watch and focusses mainly on tracking fitness, it is easy to forgive it for not having one in its design.
The style of the clock face looks generic with a slightly rounded face. There are two silicone straps inside the box. It comes in nice colors as well as black; so there is one for everyone here!
Comfort – excellent!
When we are talking about comfort, nothing can come close to Samsung. This has got to do with the casing and the material of the watch. A fitness tracker like Samsung can sit comfortably flat on your wrist, and it is easy to forget that you are wearing it even. What’s more, you wouldn’t even care about it in your sleep!
The tracker works on Dual-Core Exynos 9110 1.15 GHz processor and has an internal storage capacity of 4 GB. Its RAM is 750 MB. The battery is good enough at 230mAh and lasts close to four days with less usage of GPS.
Connectivity is through Bluetooth 4.0. NFC is a great and useful feature for people on the go. The watch looks rugged and is compatible with iOS as well.
What is not up to the mark is that Bixby is disappointingly poor like always and its Tizen 4.0 OS does not support as many third-party applications as its competitors. Overall, a good choice, though!
7. APPLE WATCH NIKE +
Apple, for most of us, is the ultimate smartphone or a smartwatch (my personal favorite!) so, when a winning brand like Apple decides to partner with successful exclusive-sports brands such as Nike, what we have on offer is a mind-blowing combination of the best of the best.
It was way back in 2016 that Apple first brought out its watch Series 2 in partnership with Nike ever since Nike plus editions have been a staple along with a standard edition of Apple smartwatches.
Pairing up with a successful giant like Nike gave Apple legitimacy; not that it requires any, but it helps craft a smartwatch cum fitness tracker that is exclusively for runners and athletes.
What comes with the Nike plus models is not just the logo at the back of the watch but
• Inbuilt GPS
• Two times brighter display on the watch face
• Water resistance of up to 50 meters
• The powerful dual-core processor in the form of Watch OS
• Exclusive Siri commands for Nike.
• The iconic watch face that Nike is famous for
• Deep integration with Nike plus run club applications.
The unique combination of Apple and Nike ensures that you get daily notification nudging you with friendly messages, smart run applications, and challenge from friends, alerts on the weather conditions being conducive outside for a run and training data that you will not get anywhere else!
All this, coupled with other standard functions that Apple smartwatches are capable of, such as Activity rings, heart rate measurements, accelerator, gyro et al.
The Nike plus sports band is of strong, flexible fluoroelastomer and has perforations for better ventilation. Sweat management is easy, with a woven and perforated belt. It is lightweight and comes in vibrant trademarked two-toned colors.
It is the best gear for those who have a passion for running! Just Do It!!
